We will be giving you our predictions for the Poland vs Portugal Men’s volleyball pool D game by analyzing both teams and offer you some betting tips as well.

Let’s start off by taking a look at the Poland’s men’s volleyball team:

Poland Men’s Volleyball Team Preview

Poland is ranked as the 2nd best men’s volleyball team by FIVB according to the rankings on August 25, 2021. That’s not a surprise since they have won the last 2 Men’s volleyball world championships in 2014 and 2018 respectively.

Poland has dominated in the Men’s Volleyball World Cup in the last decade. In 2011, Poland finished runners up to Russia, finished third in 2015, and finished runners up to Brazil in 2019.

Poland also finished third in the last Men’s Volleyball European Championship in 2019. In the same year they finished 3rd in the 2019 Men’s volleyball Nations League and improved on that performance this year by finishing 2nd in the 2021 Men’s Nations League.

Poland hasn’t won any medals at the Men’s Volleyball tournament at the Olympics. They have however always managed to reach the quarter finals in the tournament since 2004. That is a pretty impressive feat considering qualification alone to the Olympics isn’t exactly a walk in the Poland and Poland has consistently managed to qualify for the Olympics since 2004.

Poland Volleyball team : Key Players

Poland is stacked with some star studded players in their roster. Piotr Nowakowski is one of the best blockers in the world and he won the best middle blocker award in the 2018 FIVB World Championship.

Nowakowski is not alone in defense though. Poland also has 27 year old Mateusz Bieniek who won the best middle blocker award in the 2021 Men’s Volleyball Nations League.

Next up we have Bartosz Kurek who was the MVP (most valuable player) in the 2018 FIVB World Championship and the 2021 FIVB Nations League. Kurek also won the best opposite spiker award in the 2021 FIVB nations league.

Poland has another outside spiker they can rely on in Wilfredo León. León won the best outside spiker award in the 2019 Men’s European Volleyball Championship.

If 2 weren’t enough, Poland has yet another spiker in their ranks in none other than their captain Michał Kubiak. Kubiak won the Best Outside Spiker award in the 2021 Nations League.

Poland also has one of the best setters in the world in Fabian Drzyzga who won the best setter award in the 2021 FIVB Nations League.

Polan has also one of the best liberos in the world in Paweł Zatorski. Zatorski won the best libero award in the 2018 World Championships.

Apart from these massively experienced players, Poland also has some talented young players like the outside hitter Aleksander Śliwka who was the MVP in the 2021 CEV Champions league and 24 year old middle blocker Jakub Kochanowski.

Poland Men’s Volleyball team recent performance

Poland was an absolute juggernaut in the first half of 2021 during the 2021 FIVB Nations League. They finished second in the league and just lost 3 games. In the preliminary round of the tournament, Poland finished 2nd behind Brazil which has always been ranked as the best volleyball team in the world by FIVB since the first rankings were released in 2006.

But here are some interesting facts you need to consider. Poland had the best sets won to sets lost ratio of all the teams (3.54) only Brazil came clost at 3.25. Poland also had a better points won to points lost ratio than Brazil.

Brazil finished first in the preliminary round because Brazil won 1 more game than Poland.

Poland went on to beat Slovenia 3-0 in the semi finals which was pretty impressive considering Slovenia is a team on the rise and reached the final of the 2019 CEV European Championship.

In the 2020 Olympics Poland were defeated in the quarter finals by France. But if you looked at the nature of the tournament and Poland’s performance you will notice that they still put in a solid performance.

Poland had the highest set win ratio in the preliminary round as well as the points won to points lost ratio.

Poland looks like the team to beat in the 2021 Men’s CEV Championship.

Portugal Men’s Volleyball team recent performance

Portugal is currently ranked 40th by FIVB. Portugal has managed to win less prestigious international tournaments like the Challenger Cup in 2018 and the Men’s European Volleyball League in 2010.

However, Portugal has failed to even qualify for major tournaments like the Olympics or the World Championships where they last played way back in 2002. Portugal also failed to qualify many times for the CEV Men’s European Championships. They last qualified for the tournament in 2019 after failing to qualify for the last 3 tournaments before that. Portugal were eliminated in the group stage in 2019.

In fact, the history of the European Championships Portugal has never made it past the pool stage.

Needless to say, it would be a surprise if Portugal manages to change that trend.

Poland vs Portugal 2021 Men’s Volleyball European Championship Predictions
