Netherlands vs Ukraine Euro 2021 Prediction, Odds and Betting Tips
Euro 2021 is about to kick off on June 11th after it was delayed last year due to the pandemic that had a massive impact on all our lives.
After Turkey-Italy game on June 11th, Netherlands will face its first game in Euro 2020 against Ukraine on June 13.
The Netherlands-Ukraine game will take place on June 13th at 9 PM CEST at the Johan Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam.
All of the Netherlands Euro 2020 Group B games will be played in this stadium and we will be including the odds for this match and our predictions for the result as well as the predicted lineups.
So let’s get started…
Netherlands Form, potential line up and Tactics
Frank de Boer, the Netherlands manager, had a questionable performance while managing different clubs. He has also faced quite a bit of criticism regarding his squad selection for the Netherlands team which involves changing a lot of players.
But he has remained consistent in his use of a 4-2-3-1 formation. The Netherlands team under frank de Boer plays a possession based style of football. The Netherlands team tries to build up attacks with quick short passes to break to find and exploit the opposition’s space.
Frankie De Jong is key to this strategy for the Netherlands because he has the ability to harass and confuse defenders which draws them out of position and opens up space for his teams to exploit.
Usually the full backs stay wide whereas the attacking forwards/ wingers tend to tuck inside to create space for an overlap.
Denzel Dumfries has been consistently starting as the rightback and 21 year old Owen Wijndal has been seems to become the first choice left-back. Patrick van Aanholt might be called upon to play left-back due to his experience as well though.
Although 4-2-3-1 has been used quite consistently in the past, Frank De Boer has tweaked the formation to a 5-3-2 formation which looks more like with Dumfries and Wijndal acting as more attacking wingbacks.
The switch to a back 3 through might have been prompted by the absence of Virgil van Dijk. Virgil Van Dijk provided good solidity at the back but his absence has left the center backs more prone to attacks from the wings.
In the absence of Virgil Van Dijk, Stefan De Vrij seems to be the first choice center back. The manager seems to give more chances to 19 year old Jurriën Timber and he has been picked more often than Matthijs de Ligt, so it would be interesting to see what the back 2 or the back 3 would look like.
We expect a back 3 of Stefan De Vrij, Daley blind as the left center back and Mathijs de light and Jurrien Timber competing for the third center back spot especially if the Netherlands line up with 3 at the back.
Winjaldum is a sure starter in midfield and is a complete box-to-box midfielder. He can play as a an attacking midfielder in a 4-2-3-1 and switch positions with Frankie de Jong to confuse defenders, play as a box to box midfielder in a 3 man midfield or play as a more defensive midfielder.
Klassen is much more of a defensive midfielder but like Winjaldum can switch positions with Frankie De Jong.
In today’s game, teams focus on a fluid front 3, but the Oranje have a fluid middle 3, who can be called upon to do anything and confuse the opposition!
After a wonderful season with Lyon, Depay is a sure starter as a wide attacker. If a 5-3-2 is deployed we expect him to play more centrally.
Wout Weghorst has been starting quite consistently in recent games and his natural position is that of a classic striker who has an eye for goal, he will be competing with Luuk De Jong for this position.
If the Netherlands play with 3 attackers, then we expect Steven Berghuis to as the other wide forward. He might even be start as the second wide striker alongside Depay in a 5-3-2 system.
Netherlands Predicted line up
We predict a 5-3-2 formation for the Netherlands-Ukraine game.
Maarten Stekelenburg, Owen Wijndal, Daley Blind, Stefan De Vrij,De Ligt,Dumfries,Frankie De Jong, Winjaldum, De Roon, Depay, Weghorst
Netherlands Recent Form
The Netherlands have played 5 games this year. They lost the first game 4-2 against Turkey in the world cup qualifiers, won the next 2 games, drew 2-2 against scotland on June 2 and won against 3-0 Georgia. 4 goals were conceded during this period and an impressive and 16 goals were scored.
Ukraine Form, potential line up and Tactics
Ukraine has featured twice in the European Championships, in 2012 and 2016 and they were knocked out in the group stage.
But Ukraine should not be underestimated based on their past. They topped their Euro Qualifiers group finishing above Portugal and while conceding only 4 goals. Only Belgium and Turkey conceded fewer goals than Ukraine during the qualifiers (3 goals).
Ukraine are currently ranked 24th by FIFA.
After the fine form during the Euro 2021 qualifiers, Ukraine has had some terrible form. Ukraine lost 6 out of 8 games in 2020 and they drew their first 4 games in 2021. But they won their last two friendlies that were the warm up games for the Euros.
Ukraine’s manager is the legendary retired striker Andriy Shevchenko who played with AC Milan and Chelsea. He has been managed the team since 2016 and lays an emphasis on tactical flexibility.
Tactically, Ukraine tend to play a lot like the Netherlands with width coming from the full backs and the attacking forwards playing more centrally.
In 2021, Shevchenco has a clear preference for playing a system with 3 center backs.
Serhiy Sydorchuk is their main defensive midfielder who is essential in providity extra solidity at the back this allows 24 year old Oleksandr Zinchenko, who plays for Manchester City and Ruslan Malinovskyi to be more daring in attack.
24 year old Roman Yaremchuk is their main striker who is strong in the air and can hold up the ball to let his teammates join him in attacks.
Ukraine are unpredictable and they could spring a surprise in Euro 2020 which is a tournament that is full of surprises. But they don’t have a lot of star players which could hurt their chances.

Netherlands-Ukraine Euro 2021 Betting Tips
If you have read our articles on a football betting system and football betting tips you would understand why we suggest that you don’t place a simple bet on the Netherlands to win.
The reason for this is simple, the odds are below 2.0 and this means it is not a good investment.
Usually we advise punters to look for games where both teams have at least a 2.0 or more odds to win and one of the teams is a clear favorite.
In games like this however, we suggest that you bet on the underdog. But based on Ukraine’s form, which has been very poor this might be a risky option. You can place a small bet of say €10 on Ukraine see a 6x or €60 return.
Our betting tip for this game would be to place a combo bet on Depay to score during the game and Netherlands to win.
We suggest placing a small portion of your betting budget on Netherlands to win 1-0 and Depay to score because the odds for this outcome is a massive 23.0. A €10 bet on this outcome will help you win €230!
If you want to play it safe, we’d suggest you to bet on the over/under market with 1.5 goals and Netherlands to win.
If you bet on over 1.5 goals and Netherlands to win odds of 2.0 are being offered and if you bet on under 1.5 goals and Netherlands to win, odds of 5.0 are being offered.
