Finland vs Belgium Euro 2021 Predictions & Betting Tips
Finland vs Belgium is the last game in the group stage of Euro 2021 for both teams. Belgium has qualified for the knockout stage and need at least a draw to top group B.
Finland could still qualify for the next round depending on what happens in the Russia vs Denmark game as well as their performance against Belgium.
The Finland vs Belgium game will take place in Krestovsky Stadium, St Petersburg, Russia on June 21st at 2100 hrs Central European Summer Time.
Finland Form, Predicted line up and Tactics
Finland are currently ranked 54th by FIFA and this is the first major tournament that Finland has qualified for. The Eagle-owls as they are known in Finland have performed quite well in recent years.
Finland was promoted to league B in the Uefa Nations in 2018-19 for the 2020-21 season. The Eagle-owls then proceeded to qualify for their first ever European Championship after finishing behind Italy in the qualifying round for Euro 2020.
However, 2021 hasn’t been great for Finland. Prior to their opening game in the Euros against Denmark Finland played 5 games, losing 3 and drawing 2.
Finland’s first game against Denmark was a very sad one for Football fans all over the world as Christian Eriksen collapsed on the field. Denmark’s captain acted like a true leader administering CPR to Eriksen and rallying his teammates to form a wall around Eriksen to protect his privacy in such a difficult situation.
After Eriksen’s condition was stable he face-timed his teammates and urged them to continue Both teams decided to continue the match after it was briefly suspended.Eriksen fortunately is stable, alive and well. Doctors recently installed a device called an ICD that regulates irregular heartbeats.
Finland scored from their only shot in this match while Denmark bravely fought on and registered 22 shots against Finland.

Finland’s next game was against Russia which they lost 1-0. After a poor first half Finland played well in the second half but failed to equalize. Joel Pohjanpalo in particular had many wonderful chances after his header in the first half was ruled out as an offside.
Finland’s preferred formation is a 5-3-2 although head coach Markku Kanerva does sometimes set them up in a 4-4-2.
Finland are aggressive in defence where they use a man marking system and often encourage at least one of the center backs to push with the ball.
The eagle-owls main tactic is to transition quickly from defence into attack. They try to do these in two ways:
- The Defence tries to feed long passes to one of two forwards in the formation who are usually Teemu Pukki and Joel Pohjanpalo.
- Stretching the play and passing to wide players.
Finland likes to play with width and love to create chances from wide areas. The attacking fullback tries to whip in crosses while the wide player on the other side gets into the box to score.
The midfield usually consists of 2 defensive midfielders like Glen Kamara and the more experienced Tim Sparv who is the captain although Rasmus Schüller might take his place sometimes. The third midfielder is more of a wide midfielder and starts on the right.
This spot is filled by Robin Lod who is an excellent creative presence on the right.Lukáš Hrádecký is a talented Goalkeeper.
Finland can fall back into a good defensive shape and compact defensively.
In the final group game against Belgium we expect the captain Tim Sparv to return and we expect Finland to attack.
Finland Predicted line up
Belgium Form, Predicted line up and Tactics
Belgium qualified for EURO 2020 in style by winning each of their 10 matches and conceding just 3 goals, the fewest conceded by any team during qualifying, on behalf of Turkey, which also conceded just 3 goals.
Roberto Martinez has been the head coach of the Belgian National Team since 2016. Under Martinez Belgium finished 3rd at the World Cup in 201 and have seen their longest run as number 1 by FIFA since September 2018.
Belgium won their opening Euro 2020 game against Russia in style with a 3-0 win with Lukaku banging in 2 goals.
In their second game against Denmark, Belgium struggled in the first half after conceding a goal in the 2nd minute but the introduction of Kevin De Bruyne changed their fortune as Belgium won the game 2-1.
In their last game, Belgium had only 6 shots, 5 of which were on target while Denmark had a massive 21 shots 5 of which were on target as well.
Belgium have now qualified for the knockout stages and they need just 1 point to top group B. We expect Belgium to attack for this one.
The Belgian team is well organized and well drilled. Belgium tends to play with a 3-4-3 formation that is more like a 3-2-4-1 in attack. likes to patiently build up the game, even hiring one of the central defenders forward with the ball forward.
Unsurprisingly, with a formation like this three centre-backs are used, one of which is a more ball-playing centre-back. The wingbacks are often very hard at work.
One of them, usually the left wing, is more of an attacking fullback and more of a wide midfielder. This position is filled by Thorgan Hazard or Nacer Chadli, both of whom play on the left.
The other fullback is more of a defensive fullback. This position is filled by Timothy Castagne of Thomas Meunier. This may leave a gap on the left for opposition teams to exploit, but Belgium has two talented defensive midfielders to counter this threat.
On to the midfield. Belgium plays a fairly defensive midfield consisting of 2 defensive midfielders who create opportunities from behind and help the central defenders. These positions are filled by Axel Witsel and Youri Tielemans or Leander Dendoncker
The front three is where the magic happens for Belgium. Romelu Lukaku is the main striker and goalkeeper. He is strong and can fight for long balls and hold them for the rest of his teammates to attack him.
He is flanked by arguably one of the best attacking midfielders in the world, Kevin De Bruyne on the right, and one of the best attacking wingers in the world, Eden Hazard. Hazard tends to float in the penalty area, while De Bruyne is more of the creative force.
Hazard has not started in many recent games for Belgium and many other talented strikers have started in his place, including Leandro Trossard, Michy Batshuayi and 19-year-old Jérémy Doku but in Euro 2021, Yannick Carrassco has performed wonderfully in this role.
At the age of 34, Dries Mertens also starts a few matches and his experience helps to train younger attackers such as Doku.
Belgium Predicted line up
After Castagne picked up an injury against Russia, Meunier will start in his place in the Finland vs Belgium game.
We expect Thorgan Hazard to start because he has been in fine form in Euro 2020. Witsel picked up an injury prior to Euro 2021 and missed the opening game against Russia and came on as substitute against Denmark.
We believe Witsel won’t be in the starting lineup so that he is fully fit for the knockout stages. Dendocker has been acting as Witsel’s replacement in the Euros and he has been doing a fine job so we expect Dendocker to start.
De Bruyne also had an injury which is why he wasn’t in the starting line ups for the first 2 games. Just like Witsel we believe he won’t start because the head coach will try to ensure he is fully fit for the knockout stages.
Eden Hazard played quite well during the Euros and he might start on the left, we expect Dries Mertens to be rested and Carrasco to start on the right.

Finland vs Belgium Euro 2021 Predictions
We at slotfreespin expect Finland to go on the offensive against Belgium. Belgium might be tempted to sit back and slow the tempo while attempting to hit Finland on the counter but Belgium is looking to top group B so they might also be ferocious on the attack.
That being said, we highly doubt that Finland would be able to defeat Belgium who are ranked 1 by FIFA since September 2018.
We predict that in Finland vs Belgium, Belgium will win 3-1.
