England vs Scotland Euro 2021 Predictions and Betting Tips
England will face off against Scotland in Euro 2021 on June 18 2021 at 9 PM CEST at the Wembley Stadium.
In our match preview for the England vs Scotland game in Euro 2021 we will be giving you some predictions, odds and betting for this intense match up.
So, without further ado, let’s get started…
England Form, Predicted line up and Tactics
England looked sharp in their opening game in Euro 2020 against Croatia. They were fluid and seemed to have good chemistry. Prior to their game against Croatia England had won all of their 5 games in 2021, scoring 11 goals and conceding just 1 goal and with their win against Croatia, continued that fine form.
In 2021 England shifted from a 3-5-2 formation to a 4-3-3 formation. They like to build up from the back and play a quick, fluid counter-attacking style of football.
The attacking wingers can cut in field or drop which creates space for the wide attacking fullbacks on the overlaps.
Harry Kane acts like a false 9 who often drops deep to create attacks for the other attacking players and then quickly joins the attack.
England tends to play with two conservative midfielders like with a third more attacking midfielder like Mason Mount. Declan Rice seems to be the preferred choice for one of the two convservative midfielders and has excellent defensive qualities while the other midfielder tends to be Kalvin Philps who is more attack minded and had an excellent game against Croatia.
Vice-captain Jordan Henderson might start in Kalvin Phillips’ place if more solidity is required in midfield.
Because England love to play out from the back Jordan Pickford is usually the preferred option as the goalkeeper while ball carrying central defenders like John Stones and Tyron Mings are often preferred over the likes of Harry Maguire.
Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier seem to be the first choice full backs, especially when experience is needed in defence but the head coach Gareth Southgate might play younger full backs like Luke Shaw,Ben Chilwell or Reece James if he is playing against teams that tend to sit deep.

England has plenty of options when it comes to forwards. The average of their forwards is only 23. Kane is a sure starter as the center forward. Southgate might pick one of Raheem Sterling, Marcus Rashford or Jack Grealish on the left. On the right he could pick either Jadon Sancho, Phil Foden or 19 year old Bukayo Saka.
England Predicted line up
Grealish was training alone on the 15th so it seems unlikely that he will start. Scotland is likely to sit back and attack England on the counter so England are likely to avoid playing with 2 defensive midfielders. Jordan Henderson could replace Kalvin Phillips but his wonderful performance against Croatia makes it unlikely that he will be dropped.
We expect Ben Chilwell to start in place of Kieran Trippier because Trippier is a natural right back but Kyle Walker is the preferred option at right back. Luke shaw might be rested as well because of the injury on his hand.
Southgate might drop Sterling to give him some rest and Kane might be dropped because England look to attack directly and quickly.

Scotland Form, Predicted line up and Tactics
Under their manager Steve Clarke Scotland have reached their first Euros since 1996 and their first major tournament of any kind since 1998. Before their defeat at the hands of the Czech Republic in their opening Euro 2020 game, Scotland were undefeated in the 5 games they played in 2021 where they won 2 and drew 3 games.
Scotland tend to line up with a back 3 in a 3-5-2 formation which looks like a 5-3-2 when they are defending.
Left-Back, Andy Robertson is arguably their best player while another natural left-back Kevin Tierney starts as left center back and is a top quality player. Tierney is an attacking defender and can exploit the space that Andry Robertson leaves when he moves forward and can swing in crosses or cut in to join attacks.
Tierney missed the opening game against Czech Republic due to an injury.Steve Clarke believes Tierney could return for the England vs Scotland game.
The other center backs that start alongside Tierney are Liam Cooper and Jack Hendry although 30 year old Declan Gallagher can be called up if more experience is needed.
The right winback could be one of Ryan Fraser or James Forrest.
The midfield consists of a double pivot of 2 defensive midfielders and an attacking midfielder. Usually Scott McTominay and someone like Stuart Armstrong or Callum McGregor while the attacking midfielder is John McGinn or David Turnbell.
The two forwards in their formation are usually Che Adams and Lyndon Dykes although Ryan Christie and Kevin Nisbet can also start in these positions.
Scotland Predicted Line up
At the time of writing this review, Tierney still seems doubtful to feature in the England vs Scotland Euro 2021 match. We expect the side to remain largely unchanged aprt from the introduction of Che Adams.
England vs Scotland Euro 2021 Predictions
We expect Scotland to be sit back and be compact in defence. They will be looking to counter-attack and exploit any space England might leave in order to break them down.
England on the other hand will be looking to change their tactics to be more direct and creative in attack. Kalvin Phillips be allowed more freedom and play more as a box to box midfielder while Declan Rice will have to take over more of Phillips defence duties and act as the sole holding midfielder.
Mason Mount will also have more freedom to roam while Rashford and Foden and Calvin-Lewin will constantly be switching positions to confuse the defence and playing a lot of one-twos amongst themselves in the box and with other midfielders and fullbacks who will join them in attack.
The fullbacks will be pushing forward aggressively which means that Declan Rice would have to be very careful to prevent counter attacks by Scotland.
We expect Scotland to eventually concede at least 1 goal and England to win 1-0.
